Despite some emotional moments and tricky decisions to make, the narrative plays out in a relatively straightforward way. It's just a shame that there is some wasted potential in the storytelling. Player choice is usually restricted to three options at a time, more often than not representing one of three personality types. Tying into Grace's powers as a muse, you as Grace can set the tone and in doing so the lyrics, melodies, and arrangements change, significantly altering the dynamic and context of the scene. Music is a core part of the storytelling – the story simply wouldn't have worked without it – and the way that, through player choice, Grace can steer the song's direction is a genius bit of narrative design. Stray Gods doesn't shy away from its inspirations. Indeed, there is a clear connection with 'Once More, With Feeling' in more ways than one. Well at least the music choice was better than the gameplay one.It turns out that Grace has inherited the dead Calliope's muse powers, and it's through musical numbers during pivotal conversations and confrontations that Grace can coax the various gods that she meets – including Persephone, Apollo, and Aphrodite – to open up about their feelings. Hopefully they don't cancel the story before it comes out. Imagine being a grown adult and getting mad people don't like some awful music in a trailer for a game with it's own original soundtrack that isn't being used. Imagine saying you're a grown adult, and then having a temper tantrum over music in a game.
